It Takes A Voice

Nenia Corcoran educates and empowers her audience to recognize the signs of intimate partner violence and gender-based violence.

Nenia offers inspiring keynote speeches and customizable educational workshops for schools/universities, nonprofits, and other events. Nenia combines her own experiences with her decade of training as a police officer in her talks and leaves audiences with valuable information on how they can break the stigmas surrounding gender-based violence and intimate partner violence.

Speaking Out

  • Domestic Violence Doesn't Discriminate

When you picture a survivor of domestic violence, you probably don’t picture a police officer. But Domestic Violence Doesn’t Discriminate.

A combination of Nenia’s experience of being in an abusive relationship for more than a decade, her training as a police officer, and what she’s learned since becoming an advocate.

Nenia strives to educate her audience on the facts about the many forms of abuse and combat the myths and misconceptions surrounding domestic violence.

  • I Didn't Know I'd Been Sexually Assaulted

Nenia was sexually assaulted in college, but because her assault wasn’t committed by a stranger, she had no idea she was a survivor. It wasn’t until years later when she was sitting in the police academy learning the laws that she learned the truth.

This talk aims to break the stigma surrounding victim shame and clear the pathways for open communication surrounding the actual definition of sexual assault.

  • Teen Dating Violence 101

One out of three kids between the ages of 13 and 18 will find themselves in an abusive relationship this year. Unfortunately, most of them won’t be able to recognize it.

Nenia’s abusive relationship began when she was only eleven years old, but she was never taught the warning signs.

This talk is designed to educate young adult audiences on recognizing toxic relationships and protecting themselves from abuse.

For Law Enforcement

Law Enforcement and Victim Advocates as Teammates

This workshop aims to break down the barriers between law enforcement and advocates to help them work together to best support victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Law Enforcement Biases That Hurt Domestic Violence Victims

This workshop aims to educate officers on the biases they hold and develop throughout their careers that harm victims of domestic violence. A 2020 study found that 70% of domestic violence victims don’t report to the police, and these biases are part of the reason.

“Nenia touched on the subjects that other speakers are afraid to address. It is so true that too many women do not have enough information and training to recognize the emotional and sexual abuse. Nenia’s book and presentations are making a difference in their lives.”
